Abstract

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests recently completed a survey of 95 acres for a proposed commercial harvest of hazard trees in the vicinity of Hillsboro Lake on the Oconee Ranger District in Jones County. The fieldwork involved intensive archeological survey of the proposed project area to identify and evaluate heritage resources, and assess project effects on recorded properties. Fieldwork was completed in July 2005 and two previously unreported archeological sites (9J0290, 9J0291) were recorded (Table 1). Both sites represent collections of rock piles dating to the nineteenth or twentieth centuries and are recommended as ineligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
