Abstract

This is a report short form for negative findings for the proposed bridge replacement corridor begins at the intersection of SR 51 and 145, and heads southeast along SR 145. The corridor then crosses the North Fork of the Broad River. and ends approximately 244 meters (800 ft.) southeast of the intersection of SR 145 and Park Road. Proposed construction will directly impact soils that will be mechanically graded, cut and filled for the proposed bridge replacement. Secondary impacts will occur primarily from heavy machinery traveling throughout the corridor, possible use of the corridor for underground cables or pipelines, and maintenance of the bridge. Types of impacts may include the removal and relocation of soils, clearing of vegetation, and filling activities, as well as subsequent temporary increases in erosional outwash or redeposition. The proposed bridge replacement corridor is approximately 610 meters (2,000 ft) long and 97 meters (318 ft) wide. The corridor is located on SR 145 approximately 2.6 kin (1.6 mi) west of Franklin Springs, Georgia. The original archaeological resources survey for the corridor was conducted by Jenkins and Gardner (2003). For the current survey, three areas of potential effect (APE) arc defined based on a revised right-of-way. The first APE is an approximately 30-meter long and 5-meter wide section along the east side of Park Road just north of its intersection with SR 145. The second APE is defined an approximately 120-meter long and 30-meter wide stretch along the east side of SR 145, just north of its intersection with SR 51. The third APE is a section on the west side of SR 145 across the northern end of the second APE.
