Abstract

This report is an archaeological reassessment of project BRS-0679(7) in Pulaski County. The proposed project was originally surveyed by GDOT archaeologists with concurrence received in 1997 then reassessed with concurrence received in 2005. The original project remains the same except for the following: the off-site detour route (CR 196/Snow Road) will be widened by 2' on each side, patched, and overlaid with new asphalt. Existing right-of-way on CR 196/Snow Road is approximately 80' with all work taking place within the existing right-of-way. Total project length is approximately 4.77 miles. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
