Abstract

This GDOT archaeological report short form for negative findings entitles Phase I Archaeological Survey of I-85 Maintenance Project Area, Coweta and Fulton Counties, Georgia conducted by Edwards-Pitman Environmental. The proposed Project NHS-M002-00(434), Coweta and Fulton Counties, would provide for concrete land replacement on Interstate 85 (I-85) from State Route 34 (SR34) to State Route 74 (SR74) for a distance of approximately 15 miles. It is proposed to improve one center and one outside lane in each direction along the existing roadway's six-lane section. The median would be paved and a permanent concrete median barrier would be added. The roadway would be stripped for 3 lanes in each direction. The pavement design includes a 12-inch Continuously Reinforced Concrete (CRC) pavement structure and full-depth concrete shoulders. The design would also use a 12-inch Graded Aggregate Base and a three-inch Asphalt Concrete Base. Vegetation removal would occur on both sides of the roadway 50 feet from the edge of pavement, and guardrail replacement as needed along the 15-mile corridor. During construction, no fewer than three travel lanes in each direction would be maintained at all times. Additional right-of-way would not be require for the proposed project, and no work is anticipated to occur on entry or exit ramps. The existing roadway comprises three, 12-foot lanes in each direction with 12-foot inside shoulders, 12-foot outside shoulders, and an approximately 16-foot depressed grass median. The existing right-of-way is typically 150 feet from the center line on each side of the roadway.
