Abstract

The proposed project would improve the intersection at Freemanville Road and Providence Road in Fulton County. There are two proposed improvement alternatives for this project. The existing intersection has a four-way approach and is STOP sign controlled. Both Freemanville Road and Providence Road are two lane facilities with 12-foot lanes and rural shoulders of variable width. Currently, each approach is only one lane and facilitates are all left turn, through movements, and right turns. Existing right-of-way is approximately 60 feet wide along both the Freemanville and Providence Road corridors. There are two alternatives for the proposed project. 'The first alternative for the proposed improvements involves an expansion of all four approaches to include a left turn, through and right turn lane. The existing signal would be upgraded to include left turn phasing where appropriate. Rural shoulders of an approximate width of twelve feet would be used. The second alternative to this project is a round about design. The proposed alternatives vary in the amount of required right-of-way needed. The proposed conventional intersection improvements alternative would require a proposed right-of-way width of approximately 60 feet to 160 feet and the proposed project limits on Providence Road extend approximately 500 feet east of the existing intersection and approximately 600 feet west of the existing intersection. The proposed project limits on Freemanville Road would extend approximately 300. feet south of the existing intersection and approximately 750 feet north of the existing intersection. The proposed round about design intersection improvement alternative would require a proposed right-of-way width of approximately 60 feet to 160 feet. The proposed project limits on Freemanville Road would extend approximately 390 feet on either side of the existing intersection. The proposed project limits on Providence Road would extend approximately 300 feet on either side of the existing intersection.
