Abstract

Ths is a GDOT archaeological report short form for negative findings for a project to provide sidewalks with curb and gutter, lighting, benches, trash receptacles, crosswalks, and bicycle parking in Austell downtown. Project limits include the existing road right-of-way along Broad Street, beginning at Austell-Powder Springs Rd. and ending at Mulberry St; Washington St beginning at Austell-Powder Springs Rd and ending at Mulberry St; Sweetwater St beginning at Austell-Powder Springs Rd and ending at Mulberry St; Austell-Powder Springs Rd, beginning at Veterans Memorial Blvd/US 78 and ending at Sweetwater St; and, Mulberry St beginning at Veterans Memorial/US 78 and ending at Sweetwater St. Also included in the project isthe city's Washington Park. The condition of the survey area allowed only for limited testing in Washington Park due to the presence of utilities and pavement in other portions of the project area. Nine shovel tests were placed in three transects spaced at 30 meter intervals which were negative for cultural material. The entire project area was walked which allowed the crew to examine the ground surface wherever the surface was exposed. The remainder of the fieldwork was spent photographing the project area to justify the lack of subsurface testing by documenting the condition of the project area.
