Abstract

The proposed project would reconstruct the I-75/I-475/Hartley Bridge Road interchanges. The project would also widen Hartley Bridge Road from two lanes to four through lanes with turn lanes and a raised median from west of I-75 to east of the relocated Skipper Road. The existing Skipper Road would be closed and relocated approximately 850 feet east of its current location. Existing right-of way on I-75 varies throughout the project corridor from 295 feet to 1300 feet. The required right-of-way would vary from a maximum of 500 feet at the I-75/Hartley Bridge Road interchange to a maximum of 350 feet at the I-75/I-475 interchange. This reevaluation focused on various design changes: the beginning project limits have decreased by 6400 feet and the project will now begin at Station 313+00, the ending project limits on I-75 have been extended 4013 feet to Station 543+50, the ending project limits on I-475 have been increased 4278 feet to Station 503+75. These changes would not require any additional right-of-way. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
