Abstract

The proposed project would extend the four lane intersection of SR 25/US 17 from Yacht Drive to Harry Driggers Boulevard for a distance of approximately 3.76 miles. The existing right-of-way along the corridor varies from 100 to 240 feet. The proposed right-of-way would vary from 140 to 172 feet. Project BHF-009-2(91) would reconstruct the existing bridge along SR 25/US 17 over Thornhill Creek. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
