Abstract

From December 16 to 20, 2005 and on January 19, 2006, URS Corporation performed a Phase I archaeological survey of five proposed interchange reconstruction sites along I-75 in Turner County, Georgia. Scheduled reconstruction of these interchanges will be undertaken as the second phase of a three-phase project, which ultimately aims to widen I-75 to four lanes in each direction over the length of the project corridor. The five interchanges surveyed are SRI 59 (Exit 84), SRI 12 (Exit 82), CR33/BusseyRoad (Exit 80), SR32 (Exit 78), and CR252/Inaha Road (Exit 75). As a result of the survey, one archaeological site was recorded within the southwest quadrant of the SR32 interchange. This site, designated 9TN89, consists of an early-to-middle 20"' century historic artifact scatter situated in a cotton field. The site is not considered significant and has not been recommended for listing in the Nation Register of Historic Places. No further archaeological investigations are recommended for these interchanges within the currently proposed project limits.
