Abstract

In February 2006, Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) conducted a Phase I archaeological survey for the proposed Lester Mill Road and Bethlehem Road improvements project. The length of the project corridor is approximately 2.5 miles. The project area is located northeast of Luella in Henry County, Georgia. The goal of the survey was to locate and evaluate archaeological sites within the Area of Potential Effects (APE) of the proposed undertaking, so that potential effects to any resources identified could be evaluated in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The project was conducted under a contract with Henry County SPLOST. A review of the state site files at the University of Georgia in Athens showed that no previously identified archaeological sites have been reported in the proposed project corridor. During the course of the investigations, two archaeological sites, 9HY413 and 9HY414, and two isolated finds were identified. Sites 9HY413 and 9HY414 are recommended as ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Due to their low research potential, the two isolated finds are recommended as ineligible for the NRHP.
