Abstract

The proposed project would start at Ashford Dunwoody Road and end at Mt. Vernon Highway. The proposed project length would be 1.01 miles. The proposed project would provide continuous and accessible sidewalks along both sides of Perimeter Center West and improvements (striping, turn lanes, crosswalks) to four intersections along the project corridor. New sidewalks would vary in width from five to 10 feet and be seperated from curb and gutter by a grass strip varying in width from two to five feet. In some areas the sidewalk would be located at the back of curb. Existing sidewalk sections would be improved to match new sidewalks. Sidewalks and improvements would be constructed within an 18 to 20 foot wide shoulder, and would connect to existing sidewalks on both ends of the project. The existing right-of-way is 85 to 160 feet. Right-of-way width would not change for the proposed project. Seven retaining walls, varying in width from 35 to 300 feet, would be required at various locations along the corridor to reduce fill, shorten slopes, and reduce the need to purchase additional right-of-way. Approximately 1.25 acres of right-of-way, 1.30 acres of permanent easement, and 1.0 acre of temporary easement would be required for construction of the sidewalks. The roadway consists of from four to seven lanes (including turn lanes), a 25-foot median in some areas, 24-inch curb and gutter, and a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour (mph). The only roadway improvements beside striping and crosswalks are left turn lanes on Perimeter Center West at the intersection with Meadow Lane/Crown Pointe Parkway and restriping to add turn lanes on Perimeter Center Parkway.
