Abstract

This project was conducted for the City of Woodstock which proposes to construct sidewalks with curb and gutter drainage, lighting, benches, trash receptacles, thermoplastic striping at crosswalks and bicycle parking in downtown Woodstock. The construction is limited to the right-of-way along both sides of Main Street, beginning at Dupree Road and ending at Rusk/Dobbs Road; and, Arnold Mill Road/Towne Lake Parkway, beginning at Woodstock Parkway and ending at Bently Parkway. Most of the project area is level or gently/moderately sloping. The town of Woodstock is situated on the top and sideslopes of an elongated ridge separating the drainages of Noonday Creek and Rubes Creek/Little River. Elevation ranges from 905 to 1,015 feet above mean sea level. Much of the project area has been severely impacted by road construction, ditch excavation, utility installation, landscaping, and other urban activities. No sites were located during the project survey despite rigorous surface investigations. The lack of any intact archaeological sites within the project areas is not surprising considering the field conditions. Two sites, 9CK1035 and 9CK683 were previously reported within 1 km. of the project area. Cypress Cultural Consultants recommends that the Woodstock pedestrian LCI improvements be allowed to proceed within the currently defined project boundaries.
