Abstract

Addendum to Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Bridge Replacement, SR 25 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Chatham County, Georgia. Original (from Southeastern's report): This project is the replacement of a structurally deficient bridge on SR 25/Ocean Highway over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The existing bridge, constructed in 1939, will be replaced with a new 226' x 40' concrete bridge at the existing bridge site. Currently, SR 25 is a two lane roadway with 10.5' travel lanes with rural shoulders. The proposed new approaches will consist of two, 12' lanes with curb and gutter and 5' sidewalks. Traffic will be maintained during construction utilizing detours on existing roads. If built as planned, the project will require a temporary construction easement along the west side of SR 25, north of the railroad, and 640' of new right-of-way along the east side of SR 25. The proposed new right-of-way is a narrow strip about 40' wide. No archaeological sites were found within the area of potential effect. Addendum to Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Proposed Bridge Replacement, SR 25 over the Norfolk Southern Railroad, Chatham County, Georgia Project Changes, GDOT Project # BRST-064-1 (49), P.I. #533160 1.Bridge length changed from 228 feet to 177 feet. New bridge is 51 feet shorter. 2.Landscaping plan is now shown on plans. History AOE will be updated. 3.Retaining wall on the northeast quadrant that was not previously proposed. 4.Retaining wall on the northwest quadrant is approximately 150 feet longer than previously proposed. As a result, required right-of-way in this quadrant is reduced. Retaining wall wraps around the west and east sides and underneath the bridge. 5.Retaining wall in southwest quadrant is approximately 176 feet longer. The wall is currently 400 feet long. Previously, it was 224 feet long. 6.A small right-of-way miter is now required in the southwest quadrant of SR 25 and Appleby Road. 7.Construction limits are the same. However, the northern project terminus was extended by approximately 25 feet. 8.The previous area of required right-of-way was 1.35 acres. The current area of required right-of-way is 1.47 acres.
