Abstract

An Intensive Archaeological Assessment of the GA 25 Spur Extension Project in Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia. This project consists of the widening of the existing right-of-ways of Cate and Canal Roads to convert a two-lane road to a four-lane road, extending SR 25 Spur to its new junction with SR 99, north of Interstate 95. This segment of the project is approximately 11,400 feet in length. Additionally, there will be turn-off and turn-on lanes on SR 99 at the junction of SR 99 and the present Canal Road extending approximately 2500 feet to the east and west along the south side of SR 99 from this junction. The Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this project was considered to be the project corridor (see attached aerial maps), which included a 40-foot wide area to the west of the western edge of the current paved surface of Cate and Canal Roads and a 40-foot wide area to the north of the northern edgeof the current paved surface of SR 99. This was in addition to the 80-foot right-of-way of the current Cate/Canal Roads and SR 99, and a widening to a 200-foot right-of-way, the bulk of which occurs to the east of the Cate/Canal Roads section and to the south of the SR 99 section. There were no previously recorded sites recorded within the project area.
