Abstract

This project serves as an addendum to a previous Phase I archaeological survey conducted in advance of a proposed bridge replacement at SR 83 over Big Sandy Creek (Gardner and Wills 2003). The original project corridor surveyed in 2003 extended from approximately 850 ft north of Big Sandy Creek to approximately 850 ft south of Big Sandy Creek. Since that time, the project has been revised and extended 350 ft south to north of Mallory Rd. Also, three five foot wide easements along SR 83 for the construction of a fence were also added to the project. Two of these additional five foot easements were adequately covered during the original investigation by Gardner and Wills 2003. This project is located approximately two miles south of Bostwick, GA. The APE is defined as the length and width of the project corridor. The total APE is 1850 feet long and 200 feet wide along SR 83. For this addendum to the project, the APE includes the southern most 350 feet of the corridor just north of Mallory Road and a small 50 ft x 20 ft section just southwest of Big Sandy Creek.
