Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed Holly Springs Parkway-Sixes Road Development Tract in Cherokee County, Georgia was conducted in order to locate and identify cultural resources within the Area of Potential Effects (APE) of the project tract and to assess resource significance. The project area covers approximately 32 acres and is located between Interstate 575 and Holly Springs Parkway (State Route 5), north of Sixes Road in Cherokee County, Georgia. Two archeological sites (Sites 9CK1211 and 9CK1212) were recorded. Occupations represented include the late 19th to middle 20th century. Both archeological sites are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). One historic (over 50 years old) structure (CK-SR-1) was recorded within the project tract. Alterations and additions to the structure detract from its stylistic integrity. The other structures within the project area are collapsed, have been removed, or do not appear to be 50 years old, and are not eligible for consideration for NRHP eligibility.
