Abstract

Gwinnett Street Widening Archaeological Survey. Road Widening along Gwinnett Street in Savannah, Georgia. The proposed project improvements would occur along the existing alignment of Gwinnett Street, measuring approximately 0.4 mile in length, extending from Stiles Avenue to the intersection with Interstate 16, The roadway would be widened to add two additional lanes and a 20 foot wide raised grass median. Sidewalks on both sides of the proposed project corridor will also be added. The project will also include the replacement of an existing 32-foot bridge over the Springfield Canal with a new wider bridge that will accommodate the new section including sidewalks. Existing right-of-way is approximately 40 to 83 feet from the centerline. Proposed right-of-way varies from 115 feet to 140 feet from the centerline. An approximately 0.4 mile long corridor, with an approximately 100 foot wide area of potential effect on each side of the existing road. No new sites were discovered within the area.
