Abstract

The proposed project will develop pedestrian connectivity, improve pedestrian safety, improve bicycle safety and ease pedestrian circulation along portions of Memorial Drive as well along Martin Street in downtown Atlanta. The project will also develop pedestrian linkage and enhance the visual appearance between the new Capitol Gateway Community and downtown Atlanta. The scope of work consists of widening the existing five lane section with 9-foot 6 inch lanes to a five lane section with 10-foot 6 inch lanes and a landscaped median/ pedestrian refuge area. The proposed plan calls for an 8-foot new sidewalk with a 5-foot landscape strip along the south side of Memorial Drive and a 10-foot new sidewalk with a 5-foot landscape strip along the north side. Along Martin Street the travel lanes will be narrowed to a pair of 12-foot lanes with 8-foot parallel parking along both sides. The sidewalks will be widened to 6-foot and be separated by a 5-foot landscape strip.
