Abstract

On 16 August 2003, Environmental Services, Incorporated (EST) of Jacksonville, Florida, conducted a cultural resource reconnaissance investigation at the proposed Cedar Creek Industrial Park property in Crisp County, Georgia. This work was conducted to assist The Regional Engineering Group, Inc., in planning with regard to the potential development of the parcel, which comprises approximately 213.7 acres. The goal of the project was to evaluate the potential of the tract for containing cultural resources, including historic and prehistoric archaeological sites and structures. The term "cultural resources" as used herein is meant to refer to sites or objects that are archaeological, architectural, and/or historical in nature. The investigation included background research that focused on a review of previous archaeological investigations and known sites in the project vicinity. Subsequently, a walkover survey and limited shovel testing of the tract were conducted to locate artifacts and/or historic structural remains. The tract is used for cultivation, which resulted in good surface visibility. No sites or isolated artifacts were found during the reconnaissance, and the property is judged to have a low probability for containing any significant archaeological sites. Protect Location on The study area is approximately one mile southwest of Cordel.e in central Crisp County. Pateville Road forms the eastern boundary of the tract, and Georgia Highway 300 forms the southern boundary. A dirt road lies along the. west side of the tract.
