Abstract

Project BRST-563(9) would replace the deficient bridge over Reedy Creek on SR 33 in Thomas County, Georgia. This project was originally surveyed by Luke Erickson in June 2003 and March 2005 (HP030611-001). Since that time the project has been changed to include a lengthening of the mainline 200 feet to the north for a total project length of 2200 feet. In addition, the temporary easement has increased in size from 45 to 50 feet. Lastly, the maximum overall right-of-way has been reduced from 155 to 135 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during, the initial identification of archaeological resources.
