Abstract

In the winter of 2005, Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. of Waverly Hall, Georgia conducted a reconnaissance survey for early industrial archaeological sites within the Snake Creek Gorge of Carroll County, Georgia. Southern Research was hired by Historic Banning Mills to discover and record historic period industrial sites on their property and that of cooperating adjacent land owners. The reconnaissance was conducted for planning purposes, preparing National Register documents, developing grant applications, and for use as a base for future archaeological and historical research.
