Abstract

The proposed project would replace the existing bridge on SR 116 over Palmetto Creek with a multi-span bridge. approximately 165 feet long and 44 feet wide constructed approximately 200 feet to the southeast of the existing alignment. In addition, the project would replace the metal arch culvert with a 435 foot long double 8 X 6-foot box culvert over an unnamed tributary of Palmetto Creek approximately 250 feet to the south of the existing tributary crossing. The proposed roadway would consist of two 12-foot wide travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders (two feet paved). Traffic would be maintained on the existing bridges during construction. The existing bridge and metal arch culvert would be removed at the end of construction. The proposed right-of-way would vary between 75 and 100 feet. In addition to replacing the bridge over Palmetto Creek, the project would re-align SR 116 to eliminate two undesirable curves and re-align the "T" intersection of SR 116 with County Park Road.

Area of Potential Effect:

The project limits have been increased by approximately 1,365 feet to the southwest to accommodate future industrial development resulting in a total project length of approximately 5.225 feet. The typical section for the additional project length to the southwest would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with a 12-foot flush median. Additional required right-of-way up to 85 feet in width would he acquired along both sides of the new project length on SR 116 for a maximum proposed right-of-way width of approximately 160 feet. Right and left turn lanes have been added to both directions of SR 116 at the intersection with County Park Road to accommodate expected turning volumes. The project limits have extended approximately 85 feet to the southeast on Christopher Lane, which has changed from a driveway to a side road, and would require right-of-way acquisition approximately 25 feet wide for approximately 80 feet along its southwest side.
