Abstract

Project MSL-0004-00(650), Rockdale County, P.I. Number 0004650 would construct intersection improvements at Sigman Road and Gees Mill Road, located approximately 1.4 miles north of Interstate 20 in Conyers, Georgia. The proposed project limits on Sigman Road would extend approximately 881 feet north and 719 feet south of the Gees Mill Road centerline. The project limits on Gees Mill Road would extend approximately 707 feet east and 693 feet west of the Sigman Road centerline.

The existing intersection operates as a four-way stop controlled intersection. Sigman Road is a two-lane roadway with a single through lane for the north and south bound approaches with a continuous flush paved median on the south side which is used as a left turn lane on the northbound approach. Gees Mill Road is a two-lane roadway with a single through lane for the east and westbound approaches with a dedicated right turn lane for the eastbound approach. The existing southbound approach on Sigman Road is a single shared left/through and right lane and the northbound approach has a single left turn lane and a separate shared through/right lane. On Gees Mill Road, the eastbound approach has a shared single through/left and right lane and the westbound approach is a shared left/through and right lane. All lanes are currently 12 feet wide. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet wide on Sigman Road. The existing right-of-way is approximately 80 feet wide on Gees Mill Road.

The proposed project would install a traffic signal and turn lanes on all approaches. All of the approaches are proposed to have one through lane, one right turn lane and one left turn lane. All through lanes are proposed to remain at 12 feet wide. The proposed right-of-way would vary from approximately 100 feet to 125 feet in width on Sigman Road. The proposed right-of-way would vary from approximately 80 feet to 110 feet in width on Gees Mill Road. Permanent easements would be required for the construction and maintenance of slopes along the east side of Sigman Road south of Gees Mill Road, along the south side of Gees Mill Road west of Sigman Road, and along both sides of Gees Mill Road east of Sigman Road. The permanent easements would not exceed 35 feet in width.

The total required right-of-way would be approximately 28,500 square feet (0.65 acre). The total area of temporary easement would be approximately 27,000 square feet (0.62 acre).
