Abstract

This is a negative findings report for the Phase I Archaeological Survey of Minor Changes to the Sixes Road Corridor, Cherokee County, Georgia. The project consists of minor changes to the original Sixes Road corridor as surveyed in 2003. Changes to the corridor include a short section on Old SR 5/CR 1061, where the right-of-way will be expanded nearly 20 feet outside the existing right-of-way for an approximate length of 250 feet. The original survey did not include any changes along Old SR 5/CR 1061. Along Sixes Road, opposite North Rope Mill Road, an easement for the construction of a drive has been added, consisting of approximately 140 feet in length and 40 feet in width. Additional easements for drives have been added, but their locations were covered by the original 2003 survey corridor.

The area of potential effect includes an expansion of the existing Old SR 5/CR 1061 right-of-way extending approximately 250 feet in length, and 20 feet outside the existing right-of-way. The small section of corridor is located on the east side of Old SR 5/CR 1061 in Parcel 5, roughly opposite the intersection with Sixes Road. Along Sixes Road, the APE consists of an area measuring 140 by 40 feet roughly opposite the intersection of North Rope Mill Road.
