Abstract

The following is being furnished to you for inclusion as written, in the appropriate environmental document: "In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-1111(7), in Catoosa bounty, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)." " The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect STP-1111(7) would widen and reconstruct SR 146/Cloud Springs Road beginning approximately 500' west o Lakeview Drive and continuing east to the 1-75 southbound ramps. Existing right-of-way ad SR 1461C1oud Springs Road varies from approximately 50'-60', with required right-of-way varying from 90'200' for the ,project. bridge over West Chick*auga Creek exists as a 132-meter (440-foot) long by 13.4-meter (44-foot) wide bridge an would be widened to 132-meter (440-foot) by 26.8-meter (88-foot) wide bridge. Two culverts would constructed, The initial survey for the project was conducted by Eric Duff of the Department in November of 1995 Reevaluations of this project area were done by Paul McIntosh in June of 2004 and by Pamela Johnson in December of 2006 and April of 2007. In this reevaluation, side roads, specifically CR 553/Lakeview Dr. and CR 54/Redb Ave., will be realigned to meet at a single intersection. An archaeological survey consistent with the project revisions was conducted in the project area. An archaeological survey (Level II was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the ODOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. The guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on type/scope of work of ptĀ±opased highway projects and are followed during Ore initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register resources were located within the project's area of potential environment effect, it is concluded, therefore. that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible f inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above".
