Abstract

The proposed project includes the construction of a new bridge on existing SR 307 approximately 1350 ft west of the intersection of SR25 in Garden City, Georgia. The bridge would span the existing Norfolk Southern Foundation Lead track, a gas line, access road, and proposed tracks to the Georgia Ports Authority's James D. Mason Intermodal Facility. Total length of the project is 2550 ft. The proposed typical section has two 12 ft lanes in each direction, an 8 ft raised median and 10 ft outside shoulders. The existing right-of-way is sufficient to construct this project. However, temporary easements would be required for the construction and removal of a detour on the north side of the existing right-of-way. A cultural resources survey of this same project was conducted in 2000, but now the concept plans have been slightly revised, with the proposed detour construction easement flaring out slightly at the east end of the project, necessitating this documentation. The Area of Potential Effect consists of the existing right-of-way of SR 307 and the temporary construction easement for the detour. The total length is 2550 ft, and the width, including the easement north of SR 307, is 312 ft.
