Abstract

The proposed project would improve the intersection of SR 53 at SR 3/US 41 in Gordon County, Georgia. The project consists of adding exclusive eastbound right and left turn lanes and a westbound left turn lane from SR 53 onto SR 3/US 41. The traffic signal at the intersection would be upgraded to include left turn phasing. Currently, SR 53 is an urban roadway with four 12-foot travel lanes and a two way center turn lane with curb and gutter and sidewalk at various locations. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet wide. The proposed SR 53 would have four 12-foot travel lanes and a 14foot center turn lane with a 16-foot urban shoulder with curb and gutter and a five-foot sidewalk with a six-foot grass strip. The proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 115 feet wide. SR 3/US 41 contains four 12-foot travel lanes with an urban curb and gutter shoulder with sidewalk on some quadrants. SR 3/US 41 has one left turn lane on the south leg of the intersection, and dual left turn lanes on the north leg of the intersection. The existing right-of-way ranges from 100 to 215 feet wide. The proposed SR 3/US 41 would maintain the existing typical roadway section with a new urban shoulder of six-foot grass and five-foot sidewalk. The proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 215 feet. At the intersection, the rights-of-way for SR 53 and SR 3/US 41 merge into one right-of-way. The right-of-way at the intersection for the existing and build conditions range from 140 to 280 feet.
