Abstract

In March 1998, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of the Barrett Greene Subdivision (North-Unit II), in Marietta, Georgia for Willoughby & Sewell Development, Ltd.. Proposed single family residential construction within the project tract necessitated this study, in order to comply with cultural resource management provisions of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regulations (33 CFR 320-330) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (as amended, 1992). Background research revealed five previously recorded Civil War archaeological sites and two buildings are located near the project tract. No previously recorded archaeological sites or historic structural resources were identified within the survey area. All of the sites have been disturbed by recent development. The structural resources are recommended NRHP ineligible. In addition, examination of historic maps and published histories of the area did not identify any potential historic resources in the project tract. No archaeological sites or historic buildings/structures/objects were identified within the Barrett Green Subdivision (North-Unit II) project tract. The proposed project will result in no effect to the previously recorded resources near the project tract. Based on the findings of this survey, no additional cultural resources investigations are recommended for the Barrett Green Subdivision (North-Unit II) project tract.
