Abstract

The proposed project, Phase I Archaeological Survey of the SR 133 over the GA/FL Railnet, Dougherty County, Georgia GDOT Project BRST-093-1 (44), P.I. 432125 would consist of replacing the southern bridge on S.R. 133/ Moultrie Road over Georgia & Florida Railnet in Albany, Georgia. The roadway is currently a four-lane rural section with two bridges over the Georgia & Florida Railnet. The southern bridge is approximately 24 feet wide and would need to be replaced with a 38-foot deck which would include two 12-foot driving lanes, a four-foot inside shoulder and a 10-foot outside shoulder. Alternatives for construction of the bridge would include shutting down either the eastbound or westbound lanes and detour using Radium Springs Road to U.S. 82 to U.S. 19 and to S.R. 133/ Moultrie Road which would create a detour route approximately 4.7 miles in length. The total bridge width would increase by approximately 14 feet toward the south. A new retaining wall would be needed in front of the row of homes that are located to the south of the eastbound approach to the bridge. Including approaches, the total project length would be approximately 0.5 mile. The existing right-of-way width is 160 feet. Additional right-of-way would not be needed for implementation of the proposed project. However, approximately 1,450 square feet (0.033 acre) of temporary easement would be needed for the construction of a driveway and approximately 1,183.5 square feet (0.027 acre) of permanent easement would be required for the construction and maintenance of slopes.
