Abstract

In October 1997 Brockington and Associates conducted an intensive archaeological survey of the proposed Post Oak Tritt Road shoulder widening and improvement corridor in Cobb County, Georgia. The project was conducted for the Greenhorne and O'Mara, Inc. in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended through 1992 (16 USC 470). The limits of the project are from Holly Springs Road to the Cobb-Fulton County line at Willeo Creek. The proposed corridor is approximately 7.2 kilometers (4.5 miles) long. Current plans for the proposed shoulder widening and improvement project do not extend outside of the existing right-of-way, approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet) on both sides of the pavement. While the proposed project will not physically affect anything outside of the existing right-of-way, intensive survey included 30 meters (100 feet) on each side of the pavement in order to accommodate possible design changes. The intensive survey consisted of background research, archaeological field survey, and evaluation of all archaeological sites for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
