Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the widening of the SR 135 bypass corridor from a two-lane roadway (one travel lane in each direction) to a four-lane roadway (two travel lanes in each direction) on the south side of Douglas, Coffee County. The project would begin at SR 31/US 221/US 441 and continue northeast to SR 32. The length of the proposed project would be approximately 2.5 miles. Existing right-of-way is approximately 160 feet to 200 feet. Proposed right-of-way would be 200 feet to 250 feet wide. Signaled and Stop-sign controlled intersections along the corridor would be improved, and a bridge would be constructed to provide a grade separation at the railroad crossing. This railroad grade separation would require the elimination of direct access from the side streets to SR 135 for approximately one-quarter mile (0.25) mile on either side of the railroad.
