Abstract

This project serves as an addendum to a previous archaeological resources survey conducted in advance of a proposed road widening along Whitfield Avenue and Diamond Causeway (Braley 1999). The new APE is located immediately west and to the east of the previous APE, north of the intersection with Old Montgomery Rd. to its intersection with Hendry Ave. Existing right-of-way on Whitfield Ave ranges from 43 feet to 150 feet. The proposed right-of-way ranges from 120 feet to 180 feet. For this reevaluation, the APE is defined as the length and width of the project corridor; in some areas, it exceeds the proposed right-of-way. The APE is approximately 3500 ft. long, beginning at the intersection of Whitfield Ave. and Old Montgomery Rd. and continues north to the intersection of Whitfield Ave. and Hendry Ave. The APE on the west side of Whitfield Ave. ranges from 50-270 feet wide measured from the previously proposed roadway, and it includes the entire property boundaries of 20 displaced or potentially displaced parcels. This includes the additional right-of-way required for the realignments of Halcyon Drive, Grace Drive, and Bechman Ave. Along the east side of Whitfield Ave., the APE ranges from 50-233 feet wide, measured from the existing pavement. This includes the additional right-of-way required for the realignments of Kings Way and the Hess Elementary School entrance.
