Abstract

The project is located in the City of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, along Buena Vista Road/CS 2228 from approximately 400 feet west of Brighton Road to approximately 500 feet east of Floyd Road, and includes the 1-185(Buena Vista Road interchange from approximately 800 feet south of Steam Mill Road to approximately 500 feet north of Bull Creek. The total project length along Buena Vista Road/CS 2228 and 1-185 is approximately 3.25 miles. It should be noted that a portion of this project corridor, approximately from Brighton Drive to Dogwood Drive, was originally surveyed in 2003 (Project STP-8042 [9j, PI 351190). Within the project area, Buena Vista Road operates as an urban arterial road, and currently consists of a five-lane typical section, with two 12-foot through lanes in each direction and a 14-foot two-way center turn lane. Project CSSTP-0008-00(483), P.I. No. 0008483 would extend the proposed improvements along Buena Vista Road/CS 2228 to just east of Floyd Road, and would include construction of a raised, variable-width median within the project limits and the provision of 12-foot right- and lef-tum lanes at median openings along Buena Vista Road (at Dogwood Drive; Hunt Avenue/Wright Drive, Lake Rushin Drive, and Floyd Road). The maximum required right-of-way along Buena Vista Road for the proposed improvements would be approximately 240 feet. The project would also include the realignment of Hunt Avenue and Pembrook Road at Buena Vista Road.
