Abstract

This report presents the results of an historical and geophysical evaluation URS Corporation conducted at two historic cemetery sites for the Environmental Management Division, 78 CEG/CEV, Robins Air Force Base, Houston County, Georgia. The goals of the project were to investigate and report the history of the cemeteries at Robins AFB, to refine knowledge about the horizontal and vertical extent of the historic burials at the Feagin Cemetery (site 9Ht195) and the King Cemetery (9Ht196), and to make a National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility assessment for the two sites. Field work for the project was conducted on April 10 and 11, 2007, and historical research into the two families has been conducted intermittently since 2005. Based on this research, we recommend both sites as ineligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. A technical description of the methods used for this project are presented in Appendix A. A third cemetery (Parker Cemetery) was removed from Robins AFB in 1952, and the files concerning it are included in Appendix B at the end of this report. Updated archaeological site forms for the two cemeteries studied during the current project are included in Appendix C.
