Abstract

STP-213(13) would construct a new bridge on Old Federal Road/CR 19 over the CSX railroad in Chatsworth, Georgia. The project was surveyed by Teresa Lotti in April of 2001 (HPD# HP010419-001). Since that time required right-of-way has been added to provide for a culvert at the confluence of small streams that run underneath the Old Federal Road/CR 19. In addition, driveway easements have been added throughout the project corridor. The existing right-of-way is 80 feet. For the 2001 survey the required right-of-way varied with a maximum of 150 feet, with a width of 150 feet total at station 26+00 which is where the new culvert is located. The new required right-of-way at station 26+00 is now 200 feet. The driveway easements vary in size with the largest one being 75 x 75 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. By agreement, because no archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect, no signed concurrence from the State Historic Preservation Office is required. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
