Abstract

The proposed trail is located along the south side of Old Highway 41 in Cobb County, outside the City of Marietta (Figure 1). The project is located entirely on the Marietta USGS Quadrangle (Figure 2). The proposed project would consist of the construction of a multi-use trail that would begin at the intersection of Old Highway 41 and Barrett Parkway and run along the south side of Old Highway 41 to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The typical section would be a 2-foot curb and gutter, a 2- to 5-foot grass strip, an 8 to 10-foot trail, and a 2-foot grass shoulder behind the trail. The trail would remain primarily within existing right-of-way. Easement may be required in some areas for construction of slopes. The amount of required right-of-way for the construction of slopes is not known at this time. In consultation with the project designers, 25 ft beyond pavement edge was surveyed as the APE. The total length of the proposed trail is approximately 3,700 feet.
