Abstract

The proposed project would consist of resurfacing, patching, and milling on SR 11 in Bibb County Georgia. The proposed project on SR 11 would begin at the edge of pavement at US 41/SR 247 (MP 7.106) then continue northerly to an end point approximately 185 south of the Ocmulgee River Bridge (MP 12.438). All proposed construction would be restricted to within the SR 11 existing right-of-way, primarily within the existing roadbed; no required right-of-way or easements are needed for project implementation. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. By agreement, because no archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential effect, no signed concurrence from the State Historic Preservation Office is required. The Ocmulgee Old Fields Traditional Cultural Property is located adjacent to the project corridor, but given the limited nature of the undertaking, the project will have no effect to this resource. Special provisions restricting all work to within the existing roadbed adjacent to the resource will be included in the construction contract for the proposed project. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
