Abstract

From July to September 2008, Edwards-Pitman Environmental Inc. (EPEI) conducted an archaeological survey of the proposed State Route (SR) 15 Eastern Alignment project in Washington County, Georgia. The proposed project would construct a bypass on the east side of Tennille and Sandersville from SR 15, near the intersection of Boatwright Road, northward intersecting SR 242 near the intersection of Anderson Road, and continuing northward intersecting SR 15 north of Sandersville, near the intersection of County Route (CR) 67. The total project length is approximately nine miles. Research at the Georgia Archaeological Site Files at the University of Georgia in Athens indicated that no previously recorded archaeological sites are located in the current project's Area of Potential Effect (APE). Two previous surveys have been conducted that have sections in the study's APE. No sites associated with these surveys were recorded within one mile of the current APE. The survey of the project corridor resulted in the identification of ten archaeological sites and ten isolated finds (Ifs).
