Abstract

The proposed project consists of shoulder paving on SR 144 in Appling County. The proposed project would begin at the intersection of SR 4 and SR 144 north of Baxley at mile post 0.00 and would continue easterly on SR 144 to an ending point at mile post 9.40 approximately .3 km (.2 mi) east of CR 339. Shoulder paving on SR 144 would add 0.6 m (2 ft) of paved shoulders on the left and right sides of the existing pavement. All construction is limited to the existing pavement and shoulders on SR 144. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project's rights-of-way was conducted for the entire 15.09 km (9.38 mi) project. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
