Abstract

The proposed project would install a new traffic signal and upgrade the signing and marking at the intersection of State Route 32 and State Route 4 Alt in the town of Alma, Georgia. The existing right-of-way on SR 32 is 60 feet and the existing right-of-way of SR 4 Alt. is 80 feet. Right-of-way miters would have to be acquired for the installation of strain poles. The total amount of right-of-way required would be 245 square feet (0.006 acre). An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
