In July 1997 Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted Phase II archaeological testing and mapping of fifteen sites at Allatoona Lake, Georgia for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District (USACOE). This investigation re-examined and evaluated historic period sites located within five study areas said to represent early historic industrial communities. Communities include house sites and evidence of industrial activity. Prior to field investigations these areas were arbitrarily defined as a 0.5 mile radius around a central site or feature, and a sample of sites in each area were selected for testing. Archaeological sites re-examined during this investigation were originally recorded during a 1987 archaeological inventory of the Allatoona Reservoir (Ledbetter et al. 1987). These sites were evaluated for significance based on criteria used to determine National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility. Based on results of these investigations, site boundaries were delineated, and sites are recommended as eligible or ineligible for the NRHP.
