Abstract

In accordance with the Parks and Historic Sites Capital Outlay Projects SFY 83 planned development, an archaeological survey was carried out at Fort Yargo State Park on August 18, 1982. Proposed development consists of a camping area. The location of the proposed camping area is heavily disturbed. A city sewer line runs parallel to the shore line; the upland, which has experienced extensive farming (particularly cotton) in the recent past is terraced and is now covered in second growth plantation pine stands. A recent land fill covers a large portion of property adjacent to the proposed camping area. In addition, a road which was constructed within the last few months runs through a portion of the center of the proposed camping area, where heavy equipment has caused additional disturbance. No archaeological evidence of past cultural activity was observed during the survey.
