Two days were spent on the field survey. The project area turned out indeed to be heavily developed with the exception of the land immediately adjacent to Walnut Creek. All the dirt road crossings along the eastern end of the project were examined by foot to determine if sites were eroding out of the cuts. No archaeological material was disclosed. At Walnut Creek itself, the probability of sites did not seem promising because of power line construction, a new Sub Station on the southwestern side of the creek and the southwestern, northeastern and northwestern portions of the floodplain had sewer lines running through them. The southeastern side had no floodplain as the slope dropped sharply here. This bank had some eroded areas due to the large shopping center at the top of the hill, no archaeological material was located upon examination of the eroded areas. The predictions which were made initially about this project appear to have been substantiated by the field work. While the project area is very close to the Monument, urbanization and the limited scope of the project prevented any archaeological resources from being disclosed.
