Abstract

This paper reports on the survey of a 185.91 acre tract of land located in Richmond Hill, Georgia and owned by. International Paper Realty Corporation of Savannah, Georgia. The survey consisted of a combination of systematic and random attempts to identify cultural material within the tract. The random survey method utilized a stratification system which contained corridors through the tract. These were tested by random walks with test pits after every third angle and distance combination. The systematic testing consisted of test pits located in a crossing pattern in areas which were deemed more likely to contain cultural material. No sites older than the 1920's were encountered. No sites were found which were deemed significant. This lack of sites within the area is thought to be the result of the lowlying land in conjunction with the high water table. All cultural material which was found was historic and dated from the after the 1870's.
