Abstract

Project STPN-017-2(59) consists of improvements to SR 1/US 27 and Roop Street in Carrollton, Georgia. The project also includes signalization placements and upgrades within the Carrollton city limits. The proposed project would include the following; the construction of offset left turn lanes on SR 1/US 27 at Roop Street; the reconstruction of the Roop Street/Dixie Street intersection; and signalization upgrades and placements at Clinic Avenue, Trojan Drive, Central High Road, SR 166, and Roop Street at the Carrollton Center. The existing right-of-way varies throughout the project area from approximately 15 to 45 meters (50 to 150 feet), while the additional required right-of-way would be a maximum of approximately 30 meters (100 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the" NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
