Abstract

On September 15 and 19, 1983, the author conducted a cultural resource survey on 572 acres in Compartment 33 of the Tallulah Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Rabun County, Georgia. The survey area included timber sales along Sarah's Creek, a tributary of the Chattooga River. The survey strategy utilized a non-probability sampling design which included pedestrian field reconnaissance and subsurface testing. The survey located a total of nine sites ranging from undiagnostic aboriginal to the Late 19th Century. Of the total number of sites, four were located in designated timber sale units. However, none of these sites are considered to be National Register quality and will not be impacted by logging activity. Only one site, GA05S44, is recommended for protection and this site lies outside of areas of immediate impact.
