Abstract

On January 30-31, 1984, the author conducted a cultural resource survey on 723 acres on the east slope of Taylor Ridge in Chattooga County, Georgia. The survey area included proposed timber sales and an extension of Forest Service Road 259, known as the Taylor Ridge Road. Ten prehistoric sites were located in the project area. Five sites appear to contain intact cultural deposits and are considered potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register. Protection and further testing of these sites to determine significance is recommended. The remaining sites showed heavy disturbances from logging road construction and erosion and warrant no further investigations. The remainder of the survey area is cleared from impact cultural resources.
