Abstract

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing State Route (SR) 11 bridge over the Apalachee River with a new two-lane bridge in Walton and Barrow Counties, Georgia. The bridge is located between the cities of Bethlehem and Monroe in southern Barrow County, and crosses over the Walton County line at the Apalachee River (Figures 1 and 2). The existing typical section of the SR 11 bridge consists of two 12-foot lanes with 3-foot paved shoulders. The existing bridge length and width is 200 feet and 27.8 feet, respectively. The existing right-of-way (RO\V) along SR 11 is 100 feet in width. The new bridge will be relocated directly east of the current bridge. The proposed bridge will be approximately 260 feet in length with 40 feet of clear width. A proposed typical section will consist of two 12-foot lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders. Proposed RO\V width along SR 11 varies and ranges from approximately 100 to 200 feet. Project length is approximately 0.59 mile. The proposed project includes approximately 0.08 mile of Emmett Doster Road, which intersects with SR 11 south of the bridge, and approximately 0.06 mile of Tanners Bridge Road, which intersects with SR 11 north of the bridge. Emmett Doster Road has an existing 60 feet of ROW and will require a total of 130 feet of proposed ROW. Tanners Bridge Road has an existing 80 feet of ROW, and the total proposed ROW will vary between 110 and 180 feet.
