Abstract

The project begins at S.R. 306 in Forsyth County and proceeds northerly to a junction with S.R. 60 near Dahlonega. The facility will be nineteen miles long and will consist of four twelve-foot travel lanes, two in each direction. All intersections will be at-grade. The project will also contain two ten-foot paved refuge lanes and 40 to 64 foot wide medians. Crossovers will be incorporated into the median of the facility at one-fourth mile intervals between S.R. 306 and S.R. 369 to allow for changing direction after entering the highway. The right-of-way width required will be not less than 300 feet and considerably wider where necessary for cut and fill slopes. The proposed action will greatly improve transportation service between Atlanta and Dahlonega, serve existing commercial activity, and stimulate future local development. Since the Dahlonega area has no rail service, the project will relieve traffic on U.S. 19 and S.R. 9E which carry the bulk of commercial traffic, will allow vehicles to operate more efficiently, and will promote industrial development in the area.
