Abstract

From July 1983 to June 1984, cultural resource surveys were conducted on a total of 942 acres in the Oconee National Forest in Greene County, Georgia. The project areas included timber sales and three proposed road reconstructions. The survey located three historic house sites and one prehistoric site which are considered potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register. These sites are recommended for exclusion from timber sales, road construction, and land exchanges until further investigations are conducted to determine cultural significance and National Register eligibility. Two cemeteries were also located during the survey. Since cemeteries are protected by state law, these sites will be excluded from Forest Service timber sales and road constructions.
